3 Myths of Chronic Pain
There really isn’t anything you can do to change this condition, but pain management.

The greatest disservice to those that suffer from chronic pain is all too often you are told that there is no cure or really anything that can be done to help make life easier other than pain medications and mindset counseling. It is part of aging. This is the furthest from the truth!
With acupuncture alone, you can have almost a complete pain free life! Did you know that bit of info? I bet not. It is not common knowledge, which is so sad because it is one of the strongest treatments for sufferers!
Now if you want to get to the root of what is going on, then we add in “functional medicine” into the mix. Now why did I put Functional Medicine in parenthesis? Because it is just the buzz word at the moment and has gone through several variations of names over the years. Integrative Medicine, Clinical Nutrition, Etc.
With this approach, the entire focus is on YOU. Not some protocol that tells me what to do and having you leave the office with 10,000 different supplements to take! Ugh! Seriously people, who in their right mind wants to take a bunch of pills for their meals? Not me! That DOES not happen in my office.
Now an important, a very important, fact to remember is this: your lifestyle does have a direct impact on how you feel. We can have you “cured” (really what we do is allow the body to be balanced again), but if you continue bad habits, over time the pain will come back.

Okay! So let's get you some DIY suggestions to start today to make a huge shift in your Chronic Pain journey!
If you are NOT having regular bowel movements daily (1 per each meal), then you have a digestive system that is not running optimally and that will have a VERY LARGE impact on your pain and health. So start taking a good probiotic everyday before bedtime!
Get your Vitamin D levels checked and you want to have your levels in the 70-85 range! Most people are extremely deficient in their Vitamin D levels and going into Winter, you want to have your D levels at an optimal level so you are feeling much better and better protected from any infections!
Eat more vegetables!!! Get lots of color into your diet! The more color the better. The color means it is rich in bioflavonoids which have HUGE impacts on your body’s health.
Practice some form of mental self care. Whether that is meditation, walking in nature, sitting at the beach, painting, Tai Qi, yoga, singing, basically anything low impact that helps your mental state feel balanced.
It is a mental mindset and you just need to start thinking differently.
Chronic Pain is a real physical disorder which can be measured via physiological responses.
When people are diagnosed with chronic pain, they are typically told that the pain is: 1. In their head, 2. Part of aging, 3. Can only be managed via narcotics and medication.
The large growth of chronic pain disorders in the past few decades have left glaring holes in the medical field and it has become well known that the medical field is not equipped to address chronic pain effectively without side effects.
They are experts in acute care and boy are we glad for it, but when it comes to chronic conditions, there are not a lot of tools in their tool box.
Over the past 10+ years, the amount of research into the causes of Chronic Pain has increased substantially and we are better equipped to address it from all fronts.
Some of the testing that is used in my office is looking at your gut health, exposure to heavy metals and environmental toxins and food allergies to name a few.
Speaking of gut health, did you know that one study suggested that 70% of people with Chronic Pain conditions such as myalgia and fibromyalgia have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and 40% of those patients have Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth (SIBO)?!
Yep, you read that correct and as we get the gut in check, your pain starts to go away! It is like magic, except it isn’t. It is physiology.
There is no cure for Chronic Pain!
“Cure” is not really the best word to use because once you attain your optimal health, it is not a permanent state. What we do, what we consume, the amount of stress we expose our body to, all has a direct impact on our health. Thus the word “cure” really should not be a word in our vocabulary. With that stated, it is possible to reach the equilibrium or balanced state that is required for your body to be in a state of optimal health.
And that should be the goal!
Conventional belief regarding this unbalanced state leads you to believe that Chronic Pain has no cure.
That you are to be one of the millions of people in the USA who suffer with it and you need to accept your affliction as something that must simply be lived with.
Who gives any doctor the right to create that image in their patient’s mind? Or when their patient brings to their attention some success other sufferers are having to dismiss it as naught?!
They effectively deny their patient the opportunity to seek proven treatments that are peer-reviewed and treatments that have been used for over 5,000 years and are still being used by people throughout the world with great success.
Now there are multiple causes of Chronic Pain and in some cases the pain can not be permanently removed, but it can be greatly reduced.
These are typically patients that have had very serious operations that left them with lots of scar tissue and hardware. So it is not the most common form of Chronic Pain, but even they do obtain long lasting relief from pain due to acupuncture and lifestyle changes that are offered.
In medical schools (allopathic, chiropractic, osteopathic) there is a common thread taught which states medicine is really the only answer to the world’s problems. Now to be fair, in some of the schools it is less glaring, but none the less it is intertwined in the educational system and thus it is hard to blame those that have graduated from them because essentially they were brainwashed.
That was something I had to fight the entire time during my med program. It was easy to follow that path if you were not constantly aware of what was being taught. So do I blame fellow physicians who tell their patients there is no true hope? No. I reserve some grace towards them, but they should be constantly engaged in seeking after answers to their patients’ needs. That is what I have been doing for years.
I am not satisfied with just the status quo, I want to be able to help my patients achieve their optimal level of health and teach them how to maintain it, if that is what they are wanting.
Seeking out answers to my patients’ maladies has taken me all over the country and learning from mavericks from all over the world. Places such as Germany, India, New Zealand, Italy, England, China, Brazil, France, Philippines, Taiwan, Papa New Guinea, Indonesia and from our good old US of A!
There are scientists, physicians and indigenous tribal healers that I have learned from who are making massive changes and impact in our understanding of physiology and biology.
These mavericks are allowing us to have greater and greater success in obtaining the relief and healing that our patients desire and need.
So know that YOU can live a life that is uninhibited by your Chronic Pain!
Okay. Let’s do a quick review. Major medical websites tell you to be a victim and that there is no “cure” for it. You can find more details on WebMd and MayoClinic.com, but that is the basic gist of what they claim and that goes for roughly all the other medical sites as well.
They all say the same thing and leave the reader to assume that the only treatment found in modern medicine are DRUGS.
Now every now and then, there is a a minuscule mention of a nutritional treatment, but it is typically followed by there is not enough evidence to recommend it. Basically making it sound trivial at best.
I have yet to find them discuss the research that is out there in the medical journals discussing the major findings, but I can tell you with 100% confidence that there are real options and knowledge and research that explain the WHY and HOW of your suffering!
Chronic Pain can be significantly reduced or removed once the root cause is identified and properly treated!
Chronic Pain can be effectively managed, and you can go pain free or greatly reduced to where you can start living life again!
